New rules that took effect at midnight Monday compel travellers to pay their own way in self-isolation.
“Non-essential” motorists including passengers must show proof they’d tested negative for the coronavirus a maximum three days before their arrival at a border crossing.
“If this approach were to be extended to China, it would be unsustainable given the volume of travellers,” the memo said.
The federal government on Wednesday made it mandtory that anyone returning to the country has to go into isolation for 14 days.
