RE: MAKICHUK: Seeking economic diversity when it’s all going to hell

I am a new subscriber to Western Standard and I want to say it’s refreshing to read your no-nonsense articles.

In fact, I enjoy reading all the columnists and it’s good to see some “voices of reason” within such a plethora of left-wing loonies.

I’ve learned stuff here that I couldn’t find elsewhere. I really appreciate this platform because the CBC was triggering my gag reflex and I don’t even have to spit while reading The Western Standard. Muchas gracious!

The Western Standard is my favorite media outlet, alongside the Epoch Times. Kudos to Gary for subscribing and contributing to independent, reader-oriented media.

LETTER: Message to parents of children 12 and under regarding COVID-19 Vaccines in BC

Do you believe your child is mature enough to offer qualified informed consent?

mm

Published

on

School-aged children are now legally allowed to consent to a Covid vaccine. This became official in BC in May 2021 when Dr. Bonnie Henry invoked the Infants Act, Section 7, which states the government can provide medical treatment if the child consents. It is called “mature minor consent.”

A child is not allowed to drink, drive, vote, or be at home alone. Do you believe your child is “mature” enough, intellectually and emotionally prepared, to offer qualified informed consent as a “mature minor” – a decision that can affect the rest of their lives?

LETTER: Alberta government needs to step up and fight for province

Why hasn’t any recent premier of Alberta stood up for our province against Ottawa. I thought that finally, we had a champion in Jason Kenney, but he turned out to be another of Trudeau’s useful idiots.

RE: MAKICHUK: Thoughts, dreams and hopes for an independent West

I am a supporter of the Western Standard. I read your piece on an independent West, and I agree with you for sure.

A couple of points; Why hasn’t any recent premier of Alberta stood up for our province against Ottawa. I thought that finally, we had a champion in Jason Kenney, but he turned out to be another of Trudeau’s useful idiots.

He spoke many times before his election and a few times after, of the federal government staging “yet another attack on Alberta and our energy sector.”

I wonder how many times do you need to be attacked before you realize that you are at war?

It seems that no one, not Jason Kenney, not even Ralph Klein or Peter Lougheed had an undertaking of the constitution.

If they did, they would understand each of the provinces are already independent states within a confederation of independent states.

We already have control of our future. We just refuse to use that control. We ARE independent, we simply need to exercise our independence.

Our government needs to step up and truly represent Albertans and protect our future, our rights, and our prosperity.

Maybe dust off that copy of the constitution, if we still have one.

LETTER: Alberta needs a leader with a spine to stand up to Ottawa

“We talk and talk and talk and complain and grumble and nothing moves the needle.”

RE: MAKICHUK: Thoughts, dreams and hopes for an independent West

Good Morning Mr. Makichuk:

I totally agree with your column on leaving with the exception of needing a leader.  We talk and talk and talk and complain and grumble and nothing moves the needle.

We complain about how Ottawa is screwing us and yet no one steps forward to lead with a simple, forceful message that everyone can understand and relate to.  We need a leader with spine, testicular fortitude, a vision and no fear or apology to the woke political left.

We need to stop this incessant whining because that’s how the rest of Canada now sees us — as a whiner.  We need to shut up and take action.  I think if the everyday Joe knew where to start or what to do they would but they need a leader and concerted action.

Also, if we could form one large block with Saskatchewan this would give us a bit more of an edge but we need someone to say “okay we’re going this way” and point the way.

No Media Bailouts

The fourth estate is critical to a functioning democracy in holding the government to account. An objective media can't maintain editorial integrity when it accepts money from a government we expect it to be critical of.

We the undersigned call on the Canadian government to immediately cease all payouts to media companies.
