WATCH: Alberta Oil drives Guilbeault to meeting with Nixon

Federal Environment Minister Stephen Guilbeault’s tour of Alberta has already kicked off with a whiff of hypocrisy.

Attended by a sizable entourage, Guilbeault exited his black gasoline-powered SUV and hustled into the McDougall Centre in Calgary for a meeting with Alberta Environment Minister Jason Nixon.

Guilbeault has dedicated most of his career to telling Canadians they need to transition from petrochemically fueled transportation. During this meeting though, Guilbeault chose not to find an utilize an electric-powered SUV in order to demonstrate his environmental virtue. With the resources of the entire federal government behind him, one would have thought that Guilbeault could have arranged appropriate transportation for his cross-Canada tour.

It’s almost as if electric vehicles are still not ready for mainstream use yet.

At least Guilbeault contributed to the Western economy with his conspicuous consumption of local petrochemical products.

WATCH: Calgary police officer gives emotional statement on losing career after refusing jab

Like numerous organizations, the CPS has brought in a mandatory vaccine policy. All officers had until December 1 to receive two jabs.

A 24-year Calgary Police Service veteran has spoken of his emotional turmoil as he faces losing his job a year before retirement for refusing a COVID-19 vaccination.

Const. Brian Denison said he made the video on September 29. He is wearing a CPS uniform and appears to be sitting in a police vehicle.

“I have to choose between getting this miracle jab that the government is touting or possibly lose my job,” Denison said in the 10-minute video.

Like numerous organizations, the CPS brought in a mandatory vaccine policy. All officers had until December 1 to receive two jabs.

“I looked forward to retiring at 25 years and the easy way out for me is to retire now. But, I’ll tell you this, I’m not taking the easy way out. I’ve never done it throughout my life and I’m not doing it now,” said Denison.

He also called on other emergency services workers to “stop fooling yourself.

“This is the beginning of your rights being taken away. This is the beginning of what is going to be a long road,” he said.

He describes vaccine programs around the world as a “farce” and points out vaccinated people are also dying from COVID-19.

“Twenty-four years ago, just about, I took an oath that I’d uphold the law and part of that is what I’m doing today. I’m standing up and I’m now allowing myself to take part in this sham, this illegal activity that they are doing,” Denison said.

“I have sat back and I have shed tears over this and everything in me says ‘you’re doing the right thing.’ “

He called the CPS policy of forcing unvaxxed officers to use up all their banked time and then be suspended without pay is the “ultimate in bullying. The ultimate slap in the face…to frontline workers.

“This is the very beginning of you seeing Canadian society torn down. People in Canada are sheep, you feed them enough, you tell them they’re great, you tell them this will help them, they’ll do it,” said Denison.

He described the segregation of society into two camps — the vaccinated and the unvaxed — as similar to Hitler’s Nazi regime.

Denison issued a “call to action” to his police colleagues to stand against vaccine policies.

The CPS provided the Western Standard with a statement on the situation Friday afternoon.

“We are aware of a video circulating on social media, of a Calgary Police Service member in uniform that is expressing his opposition to our vaccination policy. This matter has been referred to our Professional Standards Section for investigation. In addition, we acknowledge and share in the Jewish community’s disappointment in relation to remarks made in the video,” the statement reads.

“The Service can confirm that this member is currently relieved from duty with pay for failing to adhere to the COVID-19 vaccination policy. The Service is pursuing relief from duty without pay under the provisions of Alberta’s Police Act.

“The health and safety of the public and our members is essential. We are committed to ensuring that those who are serving Calgarians do so in a safe manner, whether vaccinated or participating in the rapid testing program.

“We respect our employees’ decision on whether to get vaccinated. We value inclusivity and collaboration in our workplace and in doing so, we offer the rapid testing program for our employees who are unvaccinated, for a variety of reasons.”

In a later Facebook post, Denison said he had been suspended with pay November 6. He also faces internal charges of discreditable conduct and insubordination. He said it is likely to result in his firing.

The fourth estate is critical to a functioning democracy in holding the government to account. An objective media can't maintain editorial integrity when it accepts money from a government we expect it to be critical of.
