In an interview with the Western Standard‘s Nadine Wellwood, now-Independent MLA Todd Loewen slammed the leadership of Alberta Premier Jason Kenney and said “if an election were called today, the NDP would win.”

“The Premier’s reaction is so often to dismiss, ridicule and redirect,” said Loewen.

“Jason Kenney has failed to lead the province, and this has made him incredibly unpopular in Alberta right now, and that is a direct result of his decisions and his direction.”

Wellwood talks to Loewen

Loewen pointed out Kenney’s failures are not just related to the handling of COVID-19 and lockdowns but his failure to follow through on promises made during his ‘Alberta Strong & Free” campaign, including being tough on Ottawa.

“We have seen multiple times when virtually everyone in caucus has spoken in one direction and we see the Premier take it the complete opposite direction,” said Loewen.

He spoke of a lack of respect for caucus members, and claimed: “It is a one man show.”

“The trust has been lost and once that trust has been lost, it is almost impossible to rebuild.  We are in serious trouble now,” he said.

Loewen published a letter on his Facebook page on May 13 asking that Kenney resign.

Later that day he was kicked out of the caucus along with Drew Barnes.

Wellwood is a correspondent with the Western Standard.

Excellent point. When does your career and job become more important than serving the constituents? On another note , many Albertan’s working jobs and living their lives do nothing either. Doctors, nurses, police officers, public workers, corporations. We just follow along like good sheep and don’t question. I guess we deserve what we’re getting. Wake up Albertan’s. When will people do something when they see a problem, is a career more important than doing what is right The future of your children and country? Will it be too late to come back of the mess we created? Do people really want authoritarianism?

We have to put the Blame on the MLAs. Why aren’t they listening to their constituents? Why are they allowing Kenny to destroy the Party?

No Media Bailouts

The fourth estate is critical to a functioning democracy in holding the government to account. An objective media can't maintain editorial integrity when it accepts money from a government we expect it to be critical of.

We the undersigned call on the Canadian government to immediately cease all payouts to media companies.
