In an interview with the Western Standard‘s Nadine Wellwood, now-Independent MLA Todd Loewen slammed the leadership of Alberta Premier Jason Kenney and said “if an election were called today, the NDP would win.”
“The Premier’s reaction is so often to dismiss, ridicule and redirect,” said Loewen.
“Jason Kenney has failed to lead the province, and this has made him incredibly unpopular in Alberta right now, and that is a direct result of his decisions and his direction.”
Loewen pointed out Kenney’s failures are not just related to the handling of COVID-19 and lockdowns but his failure to follow through on promises made during his ‘Alberta Strong & Free” campaign, including being tough on Ottawa.
“We have seen multiple times when virtually everyone in caucus has spoken in one direction and we see the Premier take it the complete opposite direction,” said Loewen.
He spoke of a lack of respect for caucus members, and claimed: “It is a one man show.”
“The trust has been lost and once that trust has been lost, it is almost impossible to rebuild. We are in serious trouble now,” he said.
Loewen published a letter on his Facebook page on May 13 asking that Kenney resign.
Later that day he was kicked out of the caucus along with Drew Barnes.
