LETTER: Our ambassador only concerned with Eastern Canada

“What the hell? Who’s side is this ambassador on?”

RE: POLL: Westerners on their own in Keystone battle

It’s time to let Keystone XL go. Ambassador says Kirsten Hillman says there’s no saving the project now — and the bilateral relationship has other problems.

What the hell? Who’s side is this ambassador on?

She threw in the towel on Alberta real fast, but I suspect if that had been Quebec that got ran over by a political truck, it would be a different story in the news. I guess, that 2 billion dollar a day bilateral trade enjoyed by the USA & Canada only extends through the US/Ontario/Quebec borders? It’s the source of millions of jobs on both sides of the border says Hillman. Nope Ambassador Hillman not in Western Canada it isn’t. Thanks for the stab in the back.

Alberta deserves to have it’s own ambassador in Washington to protect our interests there. Trudeau and Hillman won’t protect Western interests if it will disrupt or interfere with Ontario or Quebec’s interests. This should concern Alberta’s staunch Federalist Premier Kenney in that Eastern Canada comes before Western Canada hands down..

All Kenney is doing is huffing and puffing around like he always does. All talk and no action, does he actually think that the SoyBoy Lieberals or the new commander in waiting of the CPC, O’Toole will seriously do anything. If he does he’s a bigger fool than I thought he was, and , sadly, voted for this con artist.

He openly stated he is a federalist . He made his choice ,now its Alberta,s turn to make a choice. Do you want this same kind of treatment from Ottawa forever as they have always done since the very early years or have you finally woke up and said thats enough. Every signal you get from Ottawa looks absolutely bad for westerners so we are left with no choice . Separation .

Ambassador Kirsten Hillman is treating Western Canada like a colony. Shameful response to Western Canadians whom just lost their jobs. Shameful response to Albertans whom she is to support & represent. I really don’t think Hillman gives a shit though. The smell of the day for the Greener’s is climate change. The hypocrisy of Greener’s for all to see is how they continue to use hydrocarbons like nothing has changed and nothing will until the Greener’s come to terms that hydrocarbons finance the way to a greener economy, it’s a fact folks. Where is Canada’s golden cash cow located? Alberta & Sask.

Join the Wildrose Party in Alberta, the Buffalo Party in Saskatchewan and the Wexitt Party in northern BC. This is just more proof that the West needs to leave this con job of a federation. If the good people in these provinces don’t secede, I predict that in 10 years these provinces and their major cities will resemble what is left of the once shining city of Detroit.

RE: MAKICHUK: Seeking economic diversity when it’s all going to hell

I am a new subscriber to Western Standard and I want to say it’s refreshing to read your no-nonsense articles.

In fact, I enjoy reading all the columnists and it’s good to see some “voices of reason” within such a plethora of left-wing loonies.

LETTER: Alberta government needs to step up and fight for province

Why hasn’t any recent premier of Alberta stood up for our province against Ottawa. I thought that finally, we had a champion in Jason Kenney, but he turned out to be another of Trudeau’s useful idiots.

RE: MAKICHUK: Thoughts, dreams and hopes for an independent West

I am a supporter of the Western Standard. I read your piece on an independent West, and I agree with you for sure.

A couple of points; Why hasn’t any recent premier of Alberta stood up for our province against Ottawa. I thought that finally, we had a champion in Jason Kenney, but he turned out to be another of Trudeau’s useful idiots.

He spoke many times before his election and a few times after, of the federal government staging “yet another attack on Alberta and our energy sector.”

I wonder how many times do you need to be attacked before you realize that you are at war?

It seems that no one, not Jason Kenney, not even Ralph Klein or Peter Lougheed had an undertaking of the constitution.

If they did, they would understand each of the provinces are already independent states within a confederation of independent states.

We already have control of our future. We just refuse to use that control. We ARE independent, we simply need to exercise our independence.

Our government needs to step up and truly represent Albertans and protect our future, our rights, and our prosperity.

Maybe dust off that copy of the constitution, if we still have one.

LETTER: Alberta needs a leader with a spine to stand up to Ottawa

“We talk and talk and talk and complain and grumble and nothing moves the needle.”

RE: MAKICHUK: Thoughts, dreams and hopes for an independent West

Good Morning Mr. Makichuk:

I totally agree with your column on leaving with the exception of needing a leader.  We talk and talk and talk and complain and grumble and nothing moves the needle.

We complain about how Ottawa is screwing us and yet no one steps forward to lead with a simple, forceful message that everyone can understand and relate to.  We need a leader with spine, testicular fortitude, a vision and no fear or apology to the woke political left.

We need to stop this incessant whining because that’s how the rest of Canada now sees us — as a whiner.  We need to shut up and take action.  I think if the everyday Joe knew where to start or what to do they would but they need a leader and concerted action.

Also, if we could form one large block with Saskatchewan this would give us a bit more of an edge but we need someone to say “okay we’re going this way” and point the way.

No Media Bailouts

The fourth estate is critical to a functioning democracy in holding the government to account. An objective media can't maintain editorial integrity when it accepts money from a government we expect it to be critical of.

We the undersigned call on the Canadian government to immediately cease all payouts to media companies.
