A reader says that orders against playing outdoor hockey is a reasonable intrusion on personal rights and freedoms.

RE: Lawyer says arrest of hockey player an ‘affront to human dignity’

Mr. Naylor,

I’ve been following the story of Mr. Wiesblatt and other “rights” advocates. Nice to know another selfish wet behind the ears 21-year old know-it-all is fighting for my rights. I think a lot of these people seem to know everything about their rights but nothing of civic duty. In my opinion these anti-mask anti-vax protesters are no better than the [l]efty activist[s] that are normally in the news.

If one doesn’t want to wear a mask fine,  but go live in the bush and stay the hell away from me. I too have “rights” and if people don’t want to vaccinate kids against anything keep them out of my grandchildren’s school and public spaces. People today have had it too good for too long, are super selfish and know nothing of contributing for the common good.

During WWII most Canadians at home thought it was their proud duty to adhere to rationing, blackouts, youths filling the labour gaps on farms, women in the factories and many more personal freedom sacrifices. I’m also pretty sure if any of these people would get sick whether with [COVID-10] or anything else they would expect medical care, EI, CERB or whatever else the largesse of the Nanny State they claim to reject offers.

By the way Mr. Wiesblatt and others may be reminded it’s also for example against the law to run around naked in public, yell fire at a movie theatre, drive over the speed limit or keep a milk cow in your city home backyard. All examples of intrusion of “personal rights and freedoms”.

Complete Idiocracy has generally defined 2020 in my book.

Cheers and have a Merry Christmas,

Ken Landrock

So no more pipeline protests to be gushed over by the media?
    No more BLM riots?

Is it our civic duty to assist the government in their fascism?
There is no scientific basis for banning young people from playing hockey.

Every year almost 39,000 people die in BC . . .
    27,000 people die in Alberta . . . .

In 2018, there were 23 deaths from influenza and pneumonia per 100,000 population, an increase from previous years. Influenza, more commonly known as the flu, is a highly contagious viral infection and frequent cause of pneumonia. Pneumonia is a more serious infection of the lungs and is particularly deadly among young children, the elderly, and those with certain chronic conditions.

Banning outdoor hockey is stupid and not backed by science anymore than these twerps who think COVID is was made by Soros and the dead people are all method actors. The latter group of people is sabotaging the kind of thoughtful opposition to the ‘classic conservative’ authoritarianism on display by the letter writer.

I know this is a Canadian context but it still helps to be informed of where flippant statements come from…”Yell fire at a movie theatre”….”Without fail, whenever a free speech controversy hits, someone will cite this phrase as proof of limits on the First Amendment. And whatever that controversy may be, “the law”–as some have curiously called it–can be interpreted to suggest that we should err on the side of censorship. Holmes’ quote has become a crutch for every censor in America, yet the quote is wildly misunderstood.” https://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2012/11/its-time-to-stop-using-the-fire-in-a-crowded-theater-quote/264449/

Ken Landrock is sadly very uninformed.
Most people Ken catch the virus at HOME . . . not outdoors. The safest place for a group of young people to be is skating on a pond. You are aware Ken that anyone under 18 has a 99.998% chance of surviving the virus.

What is quite insane are Lockdown orders that only produce more outbreaks and more lockdowns.
When the numbers of people directly affected by these events is tallied up . . . the number of deaths caused by the Lockdowns will far exceed the number of Wuhan Flu deaths.
In BC only 700+ have died, not even 1% of the population, mostly over 80 . . . and the Horgan Gang still can’t figure out how to protect Seniors’ Homes?

“Making people fear each other is always the wrong approach to any challenge.”

“What is quite insane are Lockdown orders that only produce more outbreaks and more lockdowns.”

The data not only doesn’t support this but demonstrates the opposite. Alberta’s numbers are starting to head in the right direction. Italy and China got better after their lockdowns.

Not True . . . every area that has had a lockdown has experienced an outbreak a few months later.
China? They are still dealing with outbreaks today . . . and they have lost 100s of thousands . . . Commies LIE !

And when we add up the Suicides, Drug Overdoses, Family Destruction and Collateral Damage . . . it will far exceed the Wuhan Flu deaths.
        And what about the Economic Destruction . . . Canada may never recover . . . .

As China Reports More COVID-19 Cases, College Students Voice Concerns About Lockdown Policies
BY FRANK FANG December 27, 2020 Updated: December 27, 2020biggersmaller Print
As more cases of COVID-19 are being discovered in Beijing and parts of northeastern China, prompting lockdowns, some college students in the city of Dalian are complaining that they are being prohibited from leaving campus.

Meanwhile, the Beijing city government ordered on Dec. 25 that residents couldn’t leave the city except in an emergency.

Local health authorities were scrambling to trace the steps of a man surnamed Fu who authorities previously had said contracted COVID-19 while he was in Beijing, and had tested positive upon arriving in Ningbo city and quarantining on Dec. 23. Efforts in Beijing and Ningbo focused on quarantining those he came into contact with, including 260 people in Ningbo who were identified as his close contacts.

Dalian, a port city located in Liaoning Province, witnessed a surge of infection cases in recent days. On Dec. 21, municipal authorities announced that local health facilities should be placed under a “warlike state” to stem the spread of COVID-19, as the city has continued to find new locally transmitted cases since Dec. 15.

On Dec. 22, Dalian authorities launched testing for all city residents.

Shenyang, another city in Liaoning that’s about a four-hour drive from Dalian, was placed under a “wartime” state on Dec. 23. That day, municipal health officials issued a document, asking regional authorities to “strictly control” people leaving residential areas during the New Year holiday period and the Lunar New Year in February.

In BC there are about 70 total in ICUs . . . including Wuhan Flu folks . . . there are over 150 hospitals in BC . . . so if half have ICUs that about 1 per hospital yes?

Hospitals Overwhelmed by Flu Patients Are Treating Them in Tents

The 2017-2018 influenza epidemic is sending people to hospitals and urgent-care centers in every state, and medical centers are responding with extraordinary measures: asking staff to work overtime, setting up triage tents, restricting friends and family visits and canceling elective surgeries, to name a few.

What a shock, they don’t know what they’re talking about.

Hospital beds aren’t the issue, ICU space and staffing is. And that’s what’s getting slammed. The good news is that Canadians have been mostly pretty pro-active on a personal level and their governments at least semi-competent. In the US, they’ve been having a 9/11 death toll every day for many days now.

      • Charles Martell III

        December 30, 2020 at 1:00 pm

Dem Gov Killer Cuomo leads the pack . . . he sent infected Seniors back to their old folks homes . . . and killed thousands. Interesting how 1/3 of the US deaths were in 5 Dem run states. Today Dem run California has the toughest lockdowns and the most sickness. Good news is they have almost enough signatures to recall the idiot Gov.

Canada seemed to dodge the initial numbers . . . perhaps it was because the Canadian Economy collapsed in the summer of 2019 . . .

        Interesting . . .
Dr. Genevieve Briand is the Assistant Program Director and Senior Lecturer in Applied Economics at the Johns Hopkins University Advanced Academic Programs. Her findings were nothing short of astonishing.

Deaths from heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, chronic lower respiratory disease, diabetes, influenza, nephritis, and septicemia all decreased– by an amount almost exactly equal to the increase in covid deaths.

      • sunbeamvalley

        December 30, 2020 at 6:05 pm

I don’t trust any numbers anymore. Have you researched how they are categorizing what a Covid death is? If someone dies of any cause, and they tested positive at any time, they are listed as a Covid death. I wouldn’t call that any kind of competent. I would call that cooking the books.
As for ICU capacity, (in Sask) if 30 extra patients overwhelms medical infrastructure of staffing and space, that is worrisome to say the least. That is why I don’t buy it. I don’t trust any institutions anymore, and no one should considering the hypocrisy we have seen by our ‘leaders’.

      • David Elson

        December 28, 2020 at 3:55 pm

So long as people are also ‘checking out’, what is the problem.

It takes a special kind of stupid to think death can be prevented. Everyone dies. And that is why Covid19 is a ghost simply because there has been no statistical rise in the rate of deaths in 2020 over 2019. If the big bad corona virus were truly as deadly as you chicken little types claim, then surely you would be able to point out a higher over all death rate.

LETTER: Message to parents of children 12 and under regarding COVID-19 Vaccines in BC

Do you believe your child is mature enough to offer qualified informed consent?

mm

Published

on

School-aged children are now legally allowed to consent to a Covid vaccine. This became official in BC in May 2021 when Dr. Bonnie Henry invoked the Infants Act, Section 7, which states the government can provide medical treatment if the child consents. It is called “mature minor consent.”

A child is not allowed to drink, drive, vote, or be at home alone. Do you believe your child is “mature” enough, intellectually and emotionally prepared, to offer qualified informed consent as a “mature minor” – a decision that can affect the rest of their lives?

LETTER: Alberta government needs to step up and fight for province

RE: MAKICHUK: Thoughts, dreams and hopes for an independent West

I am a supporter of the Western Standard. I read your piece on an independent West, and I agree with you for sure.

A couple of points; Why hasn’t any recent premier of Alberta stood up for our province against Ottawa. I thought that finally, we had a champion in Jason Kenney, but he turned out to be another of Trudeau’s useful idiots.

He spoke many times before his election and a few times after, of the federal government staging “yet another attack on Alberta and our energy sector.”

I wonder how many times do you need to be attacked before you realize that you are at war?

It seems that no one, not Jason Kenney, not even Ralph Klein or Peter Lougheed had an undertaking of the constitution.

If they did, they would understand each of the provinces are already independent states within a confederation of independent states.

We already have control of our future. We just refuse to use that control. We ARE independent, we simply need to exercise our independence.

Our government needs to step up and truly represent Albertans and protect our future, our rights, and our prosperity.

Maybe dust off that copy of the constitution, if we still have one.
