LETTER: Kenney shows Ottawa that we are bluffing

Jordan Lewans says that Kenney’s position undermines Alberta’s ability to force Ottawa to the table.

RE: Ottawa is at war with Alberta, and There’s no “Fair Deal” to be had”

The thing that disappoints me the most though isn’t the Teck Frontier cancellation, but how Kenney continually exposes his negotiating position as all bluff to Ottawa.  They know that he’s a federalist and that he probably does not have the spine to threaten real separation, the way the Bloc Quebecois et al used to do.

The Ottawists only need to wait him out and they know he’ll crack. On the one hand, I’d be happy that this opens a door for the Freedom Conservatives to grow their support. But on the other hand, I don’t think Alberta can wait until the next election cycle to do something really meaningful.

RE: Alberta Rancher to hold an ‘End the Lockdowns Rodeo’

On behalf of the live events industry, and the venues that host them, with a pre-pandemic workforce of over 50,000, we ask that you reconsider your support for the upcoming rodeo, with spectators, planned as a lockdown protest, on May 1 and 2 in Bowden, AB. I am not writing to disagree with your opinion on ending Alberta’s restrictions on movement and gathering, I am writing to disagree with your timing and your motivation. Civil disobedience and editorial fueling of the flames when our (collected) industry is 5-7 weeks from events that will employ 1000’s is grandstanding at best and destructive at worst.

Underlying my opinion is a clear motivation by the Western Standard to derive revenue from ticket and advertising sales (as evident from your website). Is this the action of a publication whose motivation is to re-open the live events industry towards re-employment of 1000’s or simply a motivation for your Publication?

Quoting Homer Simpson ““It takes two to lie; one to lie, and one to listen.” Please stop the lie of genuinely speaking for a harmed industry, as people are listening.

EDITORS RESPONSE: The Western Standard does not receive any ticket revenue from the ‘No More Lockdowns Rodeo’, and we stand by our editorial decision to support the peaceful gathering of people who do not support lockdowns.

REMountain Standard Time with Nathan Giede

Watched the inaugural broadcast of Nathan Giede’s Mountain Standard Time from BC today. Great work.

As an old guy, I am so thrilled to see people of your generation getting hold of this confederation issue that has been talked about (or not) by generations before you.

The west, including BC, has been getting screwed over by Ottawa for so long and it’s time to present them with a solution that includes the West, or we split.  The status quo cannot carry on.

Western Standard is the best Bang for the Buck in news information! Keep up the good work!!!

LETTER: Between Trudeau and O’Toole, idiocracy is here

Maybe the media could point out to these politicians they are truly ass-clowns.

RE: O’Toole wants carbon tax placed on Chinese imports

Maybe the media could point out to these politicians they are truly ass-clowns. Erin O’Toole flip-flops on the carbon tax and now talks about tariffs on China which A) is counter to overall general conservative free trade values. (not that I support China, I say we wean off China altogether) and B) China would obviously retaliate.

Worse though is Johnathan Wilkinson who says we can’t act alone etc. Really? Strange considering Liberal policy and now Conservative policy to have a go-it-alone carbon tax and other punitive anti-resource extraction policies that the US and others DON’T HAVE! Why? Because we have to be world leaders in climate policy even if we bleed to death. But it’ll all be worth while if maybe we get honorable mention and J.T. goes sailing with Greta.

Idiocracy is truly upon us.
